Top Ten Tuesday: Holiday Reads

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Happy Tuesday to you all. The countdown to Christmas is well on its way and what is Christmas without books? There are books for every occasion and there is nothing more festive than tucking into a book to get your holiday spirit going. Now, I’m choosing to spotlight books I’ve read that might not be conventional Christmas books, but are atmospheric for the winter.

1. Beartown by Fredrik Backman: My current read and I am 99% certain that this book will be a 5-star read and make me an emotional wreck. Now, Beartown does not take place over Christmas, but it does focus on a Swedish small-town dynamic, ice hockey, and sports culture. These elements combined offer an air of foreboding and tension, but it’s also a perfect combination for a wintery book.

Top Ten Tuesday: Autumnal Book Covers

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

We are right in the middle of autumn right now. The nights are longer, the air is crisper, and the leaves are crumbling. There is a magic to this time of year. When I think of autumn, I think of cosy nights by the fire, a cup of tea in hand, and a book at my side. This week, I’m looking at the book covers that capture that autumnal feel.

Top Ten Tuesday: Halloween Freebie

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This Halloween freebie is the perfect opportunity to spotlight some of the spookiest and atmospheric books, films, and TV shows to get you in that Halloween spirit. Now, some might not like the spooky Halloween features, but Halloween is the height of autumn, which is known for it’s cosy magical atmosphere. Here are my Halloween recommendations.

Books

The Archived by Victoria Schwab: Any Schwab book is Halloween appropriate, but the Archived also benefits from having an air of mystery to it. The main setting is based on an old, run-down hotel that has since been converted into flats. If that’s not creepy enough, you also have the histories; spirits that represent the memory of the dead. It’s a haunting and captivating book, and in typical Schwab fashion, has equally compelling characters.

Top Ten Tuesday: Best of 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

2018 was not a good reading year for me. I read a total of 11 books. Not great, but numbers don’t matter when it comes to reading. While I only read a small number of books they were all enjoyable. I did a lot of re-reading this year, but these 5 books were the standouts of the year.

Top Ten Tuesday: Autumn To-Read List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Now, as a rule I don’t tend to set TBR list. I have a whole slew of reasons to justify why, some of which you can find here. However, that does not mean I am completely against them. Realistically, I know that I am not going to read more than 10 books by the end of the year, I’d be surprised if I even read half of this list. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want to, I’m just not in the mood to do so. Having said that, these are the five books that I a currently being drawn to and might read in the Autumn.

Top Ten Tuesday: Summer TBR 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

I’ve talked about why I don’t typically set a TBR list. So I like to think of this as a wish list of books I’d like to read in the Summer. I only ticked off two books on my Spring TBR, so I’ve not mentioned the books on that list as they’ve already been carried over to this list. Here are the books I hope to read this Summer.

Top Ten Tuesday: Best Character Names

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

I remember writing a similar post to this one a while back, so I thought my challenge for this week would be to not use the same names. If you’d like to see the original post of favourite character names, click here. So, for this week I’m going to highlight some more of my favourite character names. I’ll try and keep it even between the male and females, but I always find it easier to pick a male name. Anyway, here are my additional 10 favourite character names.
