Brace yourselves, this is a long one. From fantasy dramas, cliche period dramas, international sporting events, and the most wholesome show on Earth, the last couple of month have provided some highly engaging TV. Here is what I’ve been watching.
Carnival Row (Series 1)
A neo-noir fantasy series on Amazon Prime that explores a city on the brink of collapse as tensions between the citizens and the mythical creatures seeking refuge in the city threaten to boil amidst a string of unsolved murders. It’s a tale that finds our central characters, former lovers Philo (Orlando Bloom) and Vignette (Cara Delevigne) work together to uncover the conspiracy behind these murders and confront the past that tore them apart. The mythology of this show is visually stunning and incredibly fascinating, and several aspects of the show seem to be laying the groundwork for the next season. However, their titular focus remained on our war-torn lovers. While certain aspects of their relationship are credible, there still seems to be a spark missing between them to make you really invest in their relationship. I’m hoping the next season will explore the political mechanisms while continuing to expand on the mythology of these creatures and their world. Continue reading
Supernatural first came to our screens in 2005 and over the years the show has gained a massive and loyal following. Sadly, all things must come to an end and after 15 years, fans are now tuning in to the Winchester’s final battle. Sam and Dean have seen it all, but they’ve never been alone on their adventures. Without the help of these hunters, angels, and various other creatures, the outcome of so many events would be drastically different. Here is my ranking of some of the Winchester’s greatest allies.
Perhaps one of the most underused allies the Winchester’s have, Garth and all of his eccentricities has proven to be one of their most valuable assets. Before his werewolf transformation, Garth stepped up and was the source on crucial information for hunters, a role that had previously been occupied by Bobby. He’s the most unconventional hunter making his dynamic with the Winchester’s hilarious.
This post was intended to go live on Tuesday, but I was struck down with a horrid bug and have been in recovery ever since. Nevertheless, as promised here is part 2 of my summary of best trailers from San Diego’s Comic-Con with additional reaction to the next phase of Marvel films – because there is no avoiding Marvel announcements.
Westworld (Season 3)
Yet another TV series I need to catch up on. The first series of Westworld was phenomenal, but since I’ve not caught up with the second season yet I can’t comment much on the happenings in the third season, but it sure looks epic. Continue reading
