Best of 2019: Books, TV, and Film

2019 has come and gone within the blink of an eye. We were spoilt for choice in entertainment last year with more streaming services being developed, quality films being produced, and a slew of compelling books to add to our tbr’s. It’s hard to keep track of them all, but here are some of my favourites that I read/watched in 2019.

Books

As many of you know, 2019 was not the best reading year. However, instead of focusing on the number of books read, I’m choosing to look at the quality of the books. Two books, in particular, stood out for their creativity, characters, and intricate world-building.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Laini Taylor has a way with words that will leave you feeling enchanted. Strange the Dreamer, while slow to begin with, is an example of just how vivid and creative Taylor’s writing is. Strange the Dreamer is a lot of things, but at the heart of the book, you have a tale of a community shadowed by their history. Weep is a character in itself as the city is overshadowed by the constant reminder of their desperation and the destruction that followed. Both humans and monsters alike were victims of such brutality. Yet, hope remains as Lazlo Strange comes to understand the consequences of the atrocities committed in Weep, and his compassion could be that bridge that unites the occupants of Weep. This is a book that will sweep you off your feet. Continue reading

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner
Director: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Plot Summary
Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers — Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, and Bruce Banner — must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos — the evil demigod who decimated the planet and the universe.

The culmination of 10 years and 22 films, Endgame was like a love letter to its fans whilst serving as a swan song for our original Avengers. The past 10 years have seen our heroes face monumental threats. They’ve faced alien armies, corrupt organizations, and even each other, but in the end, they’ve always overcome the odds which made Thanos’s Snap a monumental blow to our heroes and the universe. The moral is at an all-time low, with the gravity of this loss and the guilt that follows manifests in a variety of ways in our heroes. It isn’t until Scott Lang turns up at the Avengers HQ with an opportunity to undo the massacre that ignites that fire in our heroes again.

Most Anticipated Films of 2019.

It’s hard to keep track of the upcoming releases. The emergence of streaming services has only broadened the options available to viewers with original content being produced at a rapid pace. However, there are some pretty epic blockbusters set to be released this year and these are some of my most anticipated.

1. Dark Phoenix (June 7th)
