2019 has come and gone within the blink of an eye. We were spoilt for choice in entertainment last year with more streaming services being developed, quality films being produced, and a slew of compelling books to add to our tbr’s. It’s hard to keep track of them all, but here are some of my favourites that I read/watched in 2019.
As many of you know, 2019 was not the best reading year. However, instead of focusing on the number of books read, I’m choosing to look at the quality of the books. Two books, in particular, stood out for their creativity, characters, and intricate world-building.
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
Laini Taylor has a way with words that will leave you feeling enchanted. Strange the Dreamer, while slow to begin with, is an example of just how vivid and creative Taylor’s writing is. Strange the Dreamer is a lot of things, but at the heart of the book, you have a tale of a community shadowed by their history. Weep is a character in itself as the city is overshadowed by the constant reminder of their desperation and the destruction that followed. Both humans and monsters alike were victims of such brutality. Yet, hope remains as Lazlo Strange comes to understand the consequences of the atrocities committed in Weep, and his compassion could be that bridge that unites the occupants of Weep. This is a book that will sweep you off your feet. Continue reading
This is the first official post since my return from Canada and I am already itching to fly back out. During my time there I didn’t actually watch a lot of productions. The first three films I mention in this post were my in-flight entertainment. However, sometimes you need a Netflix and chill night just to unwind after the day’s activities so I did some casual viewing on the side. The only stress inducing viewing was the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire series. Not gonna lie, my shouty voice came out a few times because I was so frustrated with some of the plays I’d seen. Anyway, here’s a list of what I’ve been watching.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these posts, but I thought it was time to take a break from the books and talk about all the TV Shows and films I’ve been watching. As always, I go through weird phases with my viewings, and my mood also heavily influences what I watch. I think my favourite film in this post is made very clear, but here are my current TV and film highlights.
Grimm Series 2
Book slumps suck, but once again film and television have come to fill the void. Since my first ‘What I’ve Been Watching‘ post I’ve watched quite a few new shows and some films that I’d been meaning to watch for ages. I’ll confess, I’m not the best at binge watching programmes because I always end up needing to take a break in between and forget all about them. Here’s a summary of what I’ve been watching since the New Year.

Fun fact about me: I suck at sports. I really do. However, what I lack in athletic ability I make up for with my enthusiasm and appreciation of sports. February is setting up to be a good month for sports. To start, we have the Six Nations, which is basically a rugby tournament that unleashes my Welsh pride. However, we also have The Winter Olympics to look forward to this month. The Winter Olympics are always a highlight for me, and truth be told I prefer the Winter Olympics to the Summer one. So, with the 2018 Winter Olympics just around the corner and no signs of this book slump leaving me anytime soon, I thought I’d take the time to share with you my top five must-watch events at the Winter Olympics.
