May Wrap Up 2020

2020, what a year you’re turning out to be.

You can’t and should not be ignoring recent events. We need to take action, speak up, and educate ourselves. We can’t be idle, and there’s a world of resources available to show your support, some you can find here and here. This is just a very small sample of what’s available. Now is not the time to be silent.

May has been a scorcher with glorious sunshine keeping me in the garden for most of the month as responsibilities were put aside in favour of soaking up the sun. Sadly, this meant I did not finish a book in May but in my defence, The Song of Achilles is a heartbreaker, so I’m prolonging the inevitable as I prepare to cry my heart out.

However, it has been a great month for movie watching now that the projector is up and running. As a family, most nights are spent with my parents and brother watching the latest blockbusters on the big screen.

This is what we got up to on the blog in May.

June Plans

The Welsh government are taking precautionary measures when it comes to easing lockdown conditions, meaning that they are monitoring the situation closely while giving us small measures of freedom. Slow and steady wins the race. This also means that I will be returning to the workplace this month. I’ve been fortunate to have the resources available to work from home during this pandemic, and now we’re looking to implement a phased return to work, where we won’t be open to the public but can still provide a library service.

For the blog, the plan is to keep writing and improve engagement and interaction. As you can see, most of my posts were TV and film-related in May, but I’m hoping to finish The Song of Achilles this month and get some bookish content out there.

What was your favourite book/film/TV show in May?
Hopefully, June will bring happier moments.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves.

    1. I have 50 pages left and I know it’s gonna be emotional, but it’s such a beautiful book. Thank you, it’s definitely been strange being back in the building. Hope you have a lovely June. 😀

  2. I am side-eyeing some of the bloggers who are entirely ignoring current events and pretending like everything is normal. I’ve had to block a few people because it upset me. You don’t have to say anything, but you can at least retweet the resources to at least give the impression that you care.

Anyways, you’ve got me curious about Song of Achilles. Hope you’ll make it out emotionally alive at the end of the book. 😀 That’s really sweet that you’re watching all these movies with your family! 🙂

    1. It baffles me how people can just turn a blind eye to such atrocities. A simple RT or reading an article about the importance of Black Lives Matter can make a difference. It’s times like these that people really show their true nature.

Please read the Song of Achilles. I’m emotionally devastated, but it’s the greatest love story to come out of a Greek tragedy.

I hope June is being kind to you. ❤

    1. Chain of Gold rings a bell but it’s not a book I’m familiar with. I’ve seen the first season of Titans but admittedly I’m a little bit nervous about the second season.

  3. The return to something more normal is slowly happening here in Washington state, too. It’s both exciting and scary. I don’t know that I’m ready for it. I would like us to do better at snuffing out the virus, but I know people need to get back to work and see people for their mental health.

    1. I think what frustrates me most is how people take these easing of measures as the go-ahead to get back to normal and completely ignore the rules that are still in place. It just heightens the risk of a second wave that no one wants.

  4. Hahaha I love that you’re stretching out your read of The Song of Achilles. I’ve only heard great things about it after all, so there’s no surprise that you seem to be enjoying it a lot! 😀

You’re right about taking action though. If not, that people at least wake up and realize that there’s an issue in the world and there’s no better place to make it known that in the States following the recent events.

Thank you for the shoutout as always! Stay safe and awesome, Lois! 🙂

    1. I just can’t bear what’s to come. It’s all too tragic and my heart can’t take it haha. It’s such a beautiful book but I know I’ll be crying when I finish it haha.

Right. Even a simple act like watching a youtube video, reading an article, and taking the time to educate yourself about why it matters makes such a difference.

Hope June’s been kind to you so far. 😀

  5. We really cannot stay silent in these times as the black community had to bear this on their own for far too long. I appreciate the links you shared!! I found them really good too.

You know where I stand on Song of Achilles. The end is inevitable, but it’s also the best written part of the entire book 🙂

Thanks so much for sharing my post! I’ve been working hard on that one haha as for June, I hope the reopenings go well everywhere. We will have open borders come mid-June, so that should be … interesting. Stay safe! ❤

    1. You can’t not say something and even taking a small action can make a difference in the long run. We just have to make that effort.

I’m on a mission to finish it this weekend. It keeps taunting me haha.

You know how much I adore your posts. Here’s hoping the new lockdown measures run as smoothly as possible. ❤

    1. It’s the very least I could do. It’s been an interesting transition back to work. We’ve still got a lot to work out but next week will be the big test so we’ll see how it goes. My philosophy is to wing it. I hope June has been kind to you so far. ❤
