This post was intended to go live on Tuesday, but I was struck down with a horrid bug and have been in recovery ever since. Nevertheless, as promised here is part 2 of my summary of best trailers from San Diego’s Comic-Con with additional reaction to the next phase of Marvel films – because there is no avoiding Marvel announcements. 

Westworld (Season 3)

Yet another TV series I need to catch up on. The first series of Westworld was phenomenal, but since I’ve not caught up with the second season yet I can’t comment much on the happenings in the third season, but it sure looks epic. 

Arrow (Season 8)

The CW’s Arrowverse is vast and these shows kickstarted this latest wave of superhero franchises. I could have spotlighted The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and even Batgirl, but none of those shows would have been possible without Arrow, the one that started it all. Going into its final season, Arrow has been a rollercoaster of a ride from the beginning and is one of the most enjoyable shows around at the moment. That doesn’t mean it’s perfect, some seasons felt discombobulated and some plot devices didn’t contribute to anything in the long run. Nevertheless, the stars of Arrow, led by Stephen Amell, have delivered consistent memorable performances and hopefully, this final season will be the perfect swan song for Arrow.

Snowpiercer

I’m not sure what to make of this TV series. Having recently watched the Snowpiercer film starring Chris Evans, I was surprised that there was a TV show in the making. I think what the TV show will benefit from is having more time to explore the social hierarchy before descending into the rebellion that spurred the film on. Personally, I’d recommend watching the film as well, but it’s not a necessity.

Cats

I had no idea Idris Elba and Ian McKellen were in Cats? That surprised me, and I had to watch the trailer a few times to get used to the “cats” in question, but I will give credit where credit is due and it does look like a captivating adaptation. I can confirm that my cats did not react well to this trailer though. 

Carnival Row (Season 1)

The tricky they’ve set up for themselves on Carnival Row is that Orlando Bloom’s character motives are heavily reliant on the relationship between his and Cara Delevingne’s character. However, in order to get behind their character’s relationship, you have to believe in the chemistry between them, and I’m not sure if that was reflected in this trailer. Still, the show looks quite interesting and it’s always nice to see Orlando Bloom back on the small screen. 

Supernatural (Season 15)

No official trailer was shown for the final season of Supernatural, but the panel was definitely emotional to watch. I have been watching this show since I was an early teen and despite its problematic elements regarding their treatment of female characters of the show, I will always have a special place in my heart for team Free Will. Jensen and Jared have clearly had the time of their lives on the show, and the family they’ve built around the Winchester brothers is unrivalled, but it’s time to say goodbye.

Star Trek: Picard

Easily, one of the highlights from this years trailer reveals was Star Trek: Picard. The dreams of long-time fans have been answered and here we get the first good look at Patrick Stewart’s return as Jean-Luc Picard. There is no doubt that this show will have a massive following from long-time fans and new fans alike, and the trailer looks epic. 

Marvel

So begins the anticipation for the next wave of Marvel films. I, for one, am so excited for this lineup. To start, Thor is back, Jane Foster is taking up the mantle, and Valkyrie will be back as well. I am so excited about this and I’m so interested in seeing Taika Waititi’s vision of Love and Thunder.

I am also very excited about the casting for Shang-Chi and think Simu Liu is a perfect fit for the role. Bringing back the Mandarin for the film has also piqued my interest, so I’m curious to see how that fits. 

In truth, I don’t know much about the Eternals, but the stellar casting is a brilliant start and while I have no idea what to expect from the film, I’m sure it will be just as epic as any other Marvel film.

When it comes to the Black Widow film, I am excited for her to finally get that solo film, but knowing her ultimate fate still dampens the mood. One thing that’s for certain is that I am keen on finally finding out what happened in Budapest.

It’s not just the films we have to get excited about since the TV shows are confirmed to slot into the phase 4 timeline dealing with the fallout of Endgame and also linking into feature films. I’m curious to see how WandaVision directly links into Doctor Strange 2, but I am most excited for The Falcon and Winter Soldier. The only concern I have is how Marvel will come to explain the loose threads Endgame left us with, especially with regards to Loki.
