Infinity Son (Specters, #1) by Adam Silvera

Publication Date: January 14th, 2019

Goodreads Summary
Balancing epic and intensely personal stakes, bestselling author Adam Silvera’s Infinity Son is a gritty, fast-paced adventure about two brothers caught up in a magical war generations in the making.

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers—a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of specters. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with powers, specters take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.

Brighton wishes he had a power so he could join the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle of violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with a power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of specters has been growing bolder by the day.

Then, in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own—one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.

Brotherhood, love, and loyalty will be put to the test, and no one will escape the fight unscathed.

This book sounds incredible. Adam Silvera has already proven himself as a force in Young Adult fiction, with his books often shaking readers to their very core and packing plenty of emotional punches. Infinity Son is his first fantasy novel and it sounds like an action-packed adventure. The concept of the specters as thieves of magic sounds really fascinating and it will be really interesting to see how Emil’s new power affects the relationship between him and his brother.

    1. I feel like More Happy Than Not was the first dabble in fantasy and it really worked well in his contemporary setting, but I’m excited to see him fully throw himself into the fantasy genre.

  1. I’ve never read a Adam Silvera book, but I know he is really popular in the YA contemporary game. I think it is great that so many authors are trying new genres. It will be interesting to see if he is as successful in fantasy as he’s been in contemporary 🙂

    1. I’ve read a couple of his contemporaries and they are definitely worth reading. I love that authors, especially YA authors, feel like they can showcase their versatility in writing.
