Top Ten Tuesday: Spring TBR 2019

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

As most of you know I suck at sticking to tbr list. Every year I set one and only read about 3 or 4 of them. It’s almost like my inner rebel is telling me to deviate from any tbr list I set. So, this year I’ve decided to narrow down my list and focus on the books I own. With luck, I might be able to tick one off by time summer rolls around.

1. Circe by Madeline Miller: I’ve had my eye on Madeline Miller’s books for a while now, and when I saw this book on sale for 0.99p at the Kindle book store, I knew I had to get it. I have always had an interest in mythology, and I love seeing authors put an original spin on these heroic figures. Even more so, I love it when they put the spotlight on those lesser figures, the ones who get relegated to the back. It gives them a chance to explore their significance and the depths of their character. I know plenty of people who adore The Song of Achilles, so hopefully, I can get to both at some point this year.

2. Beartown by Fredrik Backman: This has been on my priority list for a while now. So that everyone is clear, Ice Hockey is my favourite sport, not that I can play it. So, when I discovered this book, I knew I had to read it. Based on the reviews I’ve seen, I’m in for an emotional ride, but I am ready to embrace it. 

3. Emergency Contact by Mary H. K. Joy: This sounds like a contemporary book that I will definitely enjoy and sometimes you need those books that explore the developing relationship between two individuals.

4. Only a Breath Apart by Katie McGarry: Everyone knows how much I enjoy Katie McGarry’s books. Her characters are always flawed and complex but have great hearts. Only a Breath Apart sounds like a book I will undoubtedly love, especially with its second chance romance in what I’m sure will be an emotional rollercoaster.

5. Vengeful by V. E. Schwab: You all must be appalled to see this one still on my tbr list. I know, I have no excuse as to why I’ve not read this one yet, which is why it’s on the list. I cannot wait to meet up with Victor and Eli again and see what sort of chaos they create this time around.

  6. I love that you kept it to books you own! I read Beartown and ended up loving it. It did start out a little slow for me, though. Just a warning. I also loved Katie McGarry’s book. I hope you get to each and every one of these!

    1. After writing down the list of all the unread books I owned I was a little bit shocked, to say the least. I’m determined to read them before anything else, plus it saves on shelf space since I’m not buying haha.

      1. Oh wow. I don’t know that I could do that. I did go through my Kindle this fall and comb through them to decide which I would really read and which I wouldn’t. Making a list is impressive!

  7. I absolutely loved Circe!
    I’ve not read Beartown but more Fredrik Backman in general is on my TBR. I was completely in love with My Grandmother sends her Regards… and I’m currently listening to A Man Called Ove. I’ve seen a lot of people mention Beartown, so I hope you enjoy it (and that I can join you soon).

  9. You know how much I love Emergency Contact, I hope you’ll end up loving it just as much, fingers crossed! ❤ ❤ I also added Only a breath apart on my TBR recently, it sounds amazing, I can't wait to read it 🙂

  13. Katie McGarry is always good for me, and her new one was classic Katie with a magical twist. I really enjoyed it. I had read a different Backman book, but I hope to read more, because his storytelling is quite lovely.

  14. I’ve read Circe, Beartown, and Vengeful off your list 🙂

    Circe is amazing! If you are familiar with Homer’s The Odyssey, and/or Greek mythology, you’ll definitely appreciate Madeline Miller’s retellings 🙂

    Beartown is such an important read. I don’t even have any experience with hockey and I loved reading about it and the hockey crazy town. If you are a hockey fan, you’ll definitely appreciate it.

    Vengeful was everything I was hoping it would be!

    1. I am a massive fan of Greek mythology so Madeline Miller’s books sound right up my alley.

      I am a massive Ice Hockey fan and I’ve heard so many amazing things about how emotional Beartown is and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

      I’m so curious about Vengeful because I literally have no idea where Eli and Victor’s story will go next.
