Most Anticipated TV Shows

So far, 2019 has delivered some incredible TV hits. My most anticipated for the start of the year was Titans and The Umbrella Academy and they did not disappoint. With the popularity of streaming services at an all-time high, it seems we have more choices than ever in TV and film. This list comprises of TV shows that are set to be released and will undoubtedly have me glueded to the edge of my seat from start to finish.

1. The Witcher

Beyond the fact that it’s a fantasy, I don’t know much about this series beyond the fact that it’s based on the book and had a pretty popular video game. Everyone knows that I love a good fantasy and that’s why I’m keeping an eye on this one. I can’t comment much on the Henry Cavill character reveal teaser, but I do hope that they sort out the wig because it did not look good. Other than that, I think we’ll just have to sit back and wait to see what this show has to offer.Ā

2. Watchmen

I don’t remember much about the Watchmen film, but I’m a sucker for anything superhero related, especially when they place the superheroes in situations that explore their moral code. I don’t know a lot of details about this show, but I think this could be a hit, especially when you explore the alternate historic timeline angle.

3. Game of Thrones

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I wasn’t all that impressed with the seventh series of Game of Thrones. The visuals were incredible, but the storyline was rushed and predictable. Nevertheless, this is the final season, the stakes are higher than ever, and all I ask is that Jamie and Sansa survive. I’m excited to see how this series comes to a close, but I pray the show doesn’t just pander to the fan favourites because there’s an array of wonderful and complex character’s that deserve a spotlight alongside them.

4. His Dark Materials

I’ve not seen the film and I paid little to no attention to the development of the BBC TV production. However, I’ve been curious about the show and the teaser trailer has just amplified that curiosity. To start, I had no idea that James McAvoy was in it, but the stellar cast is something to get excited about and based on the first preview this show could be a brilliant hit for BBC.

5. Peaky Blinders (Series 5)

Last year I binge-watched the entire box set of Peaky Blinder and it is by far one of the best programmes I’ve ever seen. My TV Talk on the show basically sums up my love for this show and it was one of my favourite blog posts from 2018. Cillian Murphy is phenomenal as Tommy Shelby. There’s a subtlety to his performance that gives an air of unpredictability to his character. The fifth series is by far my most anticipated of the year and I cannot wait to see what sort of trouble the Shelby family run into this time.Ā

Bonus

Lord of the Rings Amazon Prime TV Show

I was skeptical about this show, but now that they’ve revealed that the show will focus on the Second Age of Middle-Earth I am intrigued. There’s a lot of potential with that time period and the possibility of exploring the forging of the rings of power is exciting. It’s a smart choice to not base it on a beloved character from the original Lord of the Rings franchise. This show is definitely one I’ll be keeping an eye on.

  1. Oh this is a great selection of shows, I am so very excited about the adaptation for His Dark Materials! I was so disappointed in the movie adaptation and hope that this one will be really, really good, that trailer looks promising. So curious about the LOTR adaptation, too! šŸ™‚

    1. His Dark Materials looks so good. BBC is usually pretty solid with their adaptations, so I have high hopes for this. The LOTR series will definitely be an interesting one to keep an eye on.

    1. I cannot stress how brilliant Peaky Blinders is. It’s such an intelligent programme and the acting is phenomenal. Cillian Murphy shines on that show. šŸ˜€

  2. Awesome list! I’m curious about witcher. I hear you about season 7- like you said, the visuals were great, but the story was flawed- but I’m still very excited for the finale too!! I’m so so psyched for northern lights- I’m hoping it’s going to be an adaptation worthy of the book (and it certainly looks promising!!) And I really like peaky blinders as well!!
