Top Ten Tuesday: Popular Books I’ve Not Read.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the Broke and Bookish and hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

I typically suck at freebie weeks. I never really know what to write about when I have a free slate. However, I had a eureka moment this week and thought I’d share with you all of the seemingly popular books that I have yet to read. Don’t hate me too much after this.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas: Yes, you read right. I am one of the few people that have yet to read a Sarah J. Maas book. To start, I did find the concept of Throne of Glass interesting, but there are some elements to Maas’ books that I just don’t think aren’t for me.

2. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness: I’ve been telling everyone I’m going to read this book, but it’s still sitting on the tbr list. It’s not that I don’t want to, I’ve just not been in the mood to.

3. Morning Star by Pierce Brown: *hides in shame* I know. I know. How can I not have finished the series? I did mean too. I read Golden Son, was traumatised by it, prepared myself for Morning Star, but got intimidated by it. It’s been so long since I visited this world that I feel like a re-read of the series will be needed before I get to this one.

4. Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen: Dessen seems to be the go-to for young adult contemporary novels, yet I’ve not read a single one of her books. I think because my relationship with YA contemporary has changed over the year I find that I’m just not drawn to her books.

5. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han: This series seems to have taken the blogging community by storm, but I don’t have a single idea of what this book is about. So, do your best to sell this book to me. Just remember, love triangles are a huge no, no for me.

6. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline: I really want to read this book before I see the film. I’m told it’s a gamers paradise book. Now, my gaming experience doesn’t extend beyond the classic Spyro the Dragon game, but I am really interested in this book.

7. The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo: Bardugo is one of my favourite writers. So why haven’t I read her Grisha trilogy? I don’t know. I feel like I’ve already got a grasp on how great an author she is from the Six of Crows duology and the Language of Thorns. I’ve been told this is a good series to read if I want to learn more about the Grisha’s, but that’s about it.

8. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli: Again, shame on me. I swear to you, I am interested in this book, but the hype is huge. So huge, it’s terrifying. My relationship with overly hyped books is hit or miss and I don’t want this one to be a miss.

9. The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner: I blame the feels. When people told me that this book was going to punch me in the feels repeatedly I got scared. The emotional books always stick with me the longest, but I find that I have to brace myself for the onslaught of feels. It can be overwhelming.

10. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black: One of the more recent books to take the community by storm. I might be cheating with this cause I plan on reading this book in the very near future, but I’d rather not let hype influence my reading.

  1. Ready player one is a really fun book! I love A Monster Calls so much and hope you do too! SVTHSA is such an good book and the movie is amazing too! Ahh I’ve only read red Rising but I loved that + I haven’t read any of Sarah Dessens books as well actually.

    1. I’ve been on the fence about the Grisha books. I want to read them so I can formally meet Nikolai and learn more about the Grisha’s in general, but at the same time, I just feel a bit meh about the series as well.

    1. I don’t think I can ever see myself reading Throne of Glass tbh. I’m told the first three books are the best, but there’s also a lot of frustration that comes with the series that I’d rather not read haha.

        1. To start, love polygon, which is a major red warning for me haha. I think it’s just the way some characters are sidelined in favour of the new “favourite.” I’m all for exploring new angles but not at the expense of characters that were once the core of the books.

  5. I haven’t read A Monster Calls just yet, so you are not alone! You HAVE to read To All The Boys though, it’s so much more than a love triangle (triangle that happens in the second book, if I remember right). It’s an adorable book with amazing family vibes and sisterhoods and it’s about gowing up and it’s just amazing. And yes The Serpent King WILL punch you in the feels, but I really have a feeling you will LOVE IT. 😀

  9. Oh yeah, you definitely have to be in the mood to read monster calls. ooh selling to all the boys- okay- it’s surprisingly sweet, has a great romance and fun sister relationships!! And yeah, you’ve got to be in the mood for serpent king too. I need to read cruel prince too!
