A Thousand Beginnings and Endings edited by Ellen Oh & Elsie Chapman
Publication Date: June 26th, 2018
Goodreads Summary
Star-crossed lovers, meddling immortals, feigned identities, battles of wits, and dire warnings. These are the stuff of fairy tale, myth, and folklore that have drawn us in for centuries.
Fifteen bestselling and acclaimed authors reimagine the folklore and mythology of East and South Asia in short stories that are by turns enchanting, heartbreaking, romantic, and passionate.
Compiled by We Need Diverse Books’ Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman, the authors included in this exquisite collection are: Renee Ahdieh, Sona Charaipotra, Preeti Chhibber, Roshani Chokshi, Aliette de Bodard, Melissa de la Cruz, Julie Kagawa, Rahul Kanakia, Lori M. Lee, E. C. Myers, Cindy Pon, Aisha Saeed, Shveta Thakrar, and Alyssa Wong.
A mountain loses her heart. Two sisters transform into birds to escape captivity. A young man learns the true meaning of sacrifice. A young woman takes up her mother’s mantle and leads the dead to their final resting place. From fantasy to science fiction to contemporary, from romance to tales of revenge, these stories will beguile readers from start to finish.
How can you not be excited about this book? A collection of East and South Asia retellings, what more could you possibly want? I must admit that my knowledge of Asian folktales is limited, but anyone can tell you that I love learning and reading about them. I have read and loved some of the books by the featured authors, and I’m sure that while reading this anthology I’ll discover some new authors to add to my to-read list.
What’s your most anticipated book?

I have seen this book around a lot and everyone mentioned it on Twitter lately- it sounds SO good! I’m not usually a fan of anthologies (can I really say that, though, since I haven’t read that many?), but…I’m too curious about this NOT to add it to my TBR 🙂

I’ve only read a few anthologies before and they’re usually a mixed bag of brilliant and mediocre, but the concept of this one sounds so interesting that I can’t pass it up.
