June Wrap Up 2017

I don’t like how fast this years going. It feels like we’ve just gone ahead and skipped the months of February to May. I’m happy to report that June has been another good reading month for me. I’m not someone that can read over 10 books a month, my mood reading is to unpredictable, but considering how slumpy a reading year I’ve had so far, 5 books is a major success. Life has been unsurprisingly uneventful this month. All I’ve really done is work and read. Exciting times. I’ve been craving an adventure as of late but sadly I don’t think I’ll be having one until next year.

Here are the 5 books I read in the month of June. As you can see I’ve been on a Katie McGarry kick lately and her books are so addictive and swoon-worthy, you simply can’t resist them. Crash Into You was my favourite in the series and for those of you that have read it you’ll know why. 😉 After exhausting my collection of Katie McGarry books I had an urge to read another fantasy and A Crown of Wishes was just what I was looking for. It had a strong hate to love dynamic between our two main characters and the world/writing was so magical.

July Goals

No specific goal this month. I’m hoping this reading mojo stays with me for a while now. I’m currently reading The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta and loving it so far. After that I might take a step back into fantasy but you never know with my mood.

Blog wise I think it’s high time I start writing up some of my discussion posts. I’ve had a list of ideas for over the past years or so but organising my thoughts into coherent sentences is a major challenge. I wish the computer would just rip them out of my jumbled head and write it for me. Nonetheless, I’m hoping I can power through my conundrums and write up something semi-coherent.

My TV binge sessions have hit an all time low. The only program I’m currently following is the third series of Poldark and all I cay is, SAVE DWIGHT! However, I’ve been on a roll with my films. My brother has been putting his projector to use and most evenings we find ourselves watching films on the big screen. It’s the only way to watch anything!

One highlight of July will be having my best friend from university come visit me. It’s been too long since we last saw each other and a major catch up is needed. I’m also hoping I can book my flights to Canada for next years trip, although I’m still debating how long I plan on going for, I think budgeting and costs will be the deciding matter on that front. Besides that it’ll be another slow month in the life of Lois.

June was a great reading month for me.

    1. That’s what happened with me. I read Pushing the Limit last year but never continued with the series for some reason. I hope you get the chance to read them in the near future. 😀

  4. OH I get the feeling of needing an adventure – I feel the same way at the moment. I hope you’ll be able to have some soon, or at least live them a bit through books in the meantime until the next year ❤

    1. I think books are going to be my escape until I get my adventure. I just need to figure out how long my trip will be cause I keep going back and forth. I’m so indecisive haha.
      The Star-Touched Queen was an okay book. The writing is magical and evocative but I felt like the first book was so focused on our protagonist that the other characters lagged in depth. They all served to further the main characters arc. The second book was definitely something to indulge in though. I’d say to give the series a shot at least.

          1. OHHHHHHHH that’s so great! Going to Canada is one of my biggest dreams, I hope to go there as well in the next years!
            I really hope you’ll be able to go there as long as you can ; the country seems SO beautiful and welcoming and everything ❤

I read The Star-Touched Queen this month; unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would, but I’ve heard such wonderful things about A Crown of Wishes that I’m still willing to give it a go – I’m really glad that you enjoyed it! June was a good reading month for me too, which was a surprise – maybe the mojo comes universally when it does. 😉

    1. I enjoyed The Star-Touched Queen but didn’t love it. I felt like the secondary characters, Amar especially, could have been given more depth and I felt like he was merely a tool to help further Maya’s character arc. Crown of Wishes didn’t have that issue though and the banter between the main characters was epic.

      Universal reading mojo. I love the sound of that haha.

      I’m quite proud of myself for already posting one of those discussion posts, most of them will basically be me flailing about books haha.

I’m not a fast reader to start with so I can’t even imagine myself reading more than 10 books a month (especially while going to school, working, and watching all the dramas that I do). But this was a pretty good reading month for you! And I noticed that you rated book 2 of the STQ duology higher than the first? That’s a good sign!

    YES! I am so in favor of you writing up discussion posts, omg. You’re so eloquent and insightful so I think you’d be great at writing them. Besides, if you have the inspiration… all the more reason to give it a try.

    That ending statement! Life of Lois or some type of variation of that has a nice ring to it; you should consider incorporating it somehow with your blog. Or maybe it’s too cheesy? (I’m rambling now.)

    1. I like to savor the books I read as well. I hate feeling like I have to rush through a book, unless it’s an addictive one I can’t put down haha. I just take my time. I’m not a fast reader and I spend more time trying to figure out which book to read then actually reading it haha.

      The last discussion post I wrote was October 2016 so it’s high time I wrote more of them, even if I end up dissecting every word of it and end up hating everything I’ve written haha.

      I like the sound of Life of Lois but I have no idea how to fit it in cause my life isn’t all that interesting right now haha.

        I can relate though. I think discussion posts are the most read but they’re my least favorite to write. I feel like all the posts I’ve written have been done before?? Plus, I’m not the best at replying to comments and it makes me feel bad to get to them months later. 😔

  8. Yesss, I loved ACOW so I’m glad you enjoyed that one too! Thank you for sharing Jenna’s discussion post. I’ve terrible with binging TV, I won’t watch anything for months but then when I get hooked into a show that’s all I’ll do for a whole week.

    1. The only time I’m actually good at binge watching is when I have someone to watch it with. Like with The Walking Dead. It took about 6 months for me to watch the first 6 series but I went back to re-watch it with my mam this time and we’d finished within a month.

    1. It’s been a while since I’ve had a good binge reading session but it really did a good job at getting me back in the flow of reading. Plus her books are so addictive, I can’t resit them. I was surprised by how much I loved ACOW but I’m so happy to have read it.

    1. It’s weird, just as I posted this my other uni friend arranged for a meet up so I can tick both of them off of my much needed reunion list. Now we need to find a way for the three of us to be able to meet up at the same time but it’s so hard to do that when we’re scattered across the country haha.

    1. The Star-Touched Queen didn’t blow me away so I didn’t really have a lot of expectations for A Crown of Wishes but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Gauri and her dynamic with Vikram. They such a well suited couple.

  12. I just started reading Katie McGarry’s books last month and fell in LOVE! I’ve read Pushing the Limits, Crossing the Line and Breaking the Rules so far and they’ve all been a hit!

  13. Back in April I attended the Southern Kentucky Book Fest & got the opportunity to listen to Katie McGarry on a YA romance panel. I found her the most fascinating of the bunch. I also appreciated that she said she focuses on HEALTHY relationships in YA… not perfect, but also not toxic & problematic. I haven’t read any of her books (YA romance/contemp isn’t my go-to genre) but I think I will give one a go at some point. Do you have a favorite? I know you mentioned which one was your favorite in this series, but have you read any of her others?

    1. That sounds like such a wonderful event and I completely agree that her characters and their relationships are very healthy but are not all heart and flowers. They have their issues and struggle but seeing them work through it together makes you root for them. I’ve read her Thunder Road series as well and my favourite from that one is Walk the Edge. It looks at the lifestyle of a motorcycle club and tackles the stereotypes associated with them. I’ve also found one of my favourite book boyfriend in that book haha.
