Goodreads Summary
For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire.

These WoW post always seem to open with a confession but I must confess that I have yet to read a Marie Lu book. However, that doesn’t mean I’m not interested and this book, despite it’s ugly cover, sounds right up my alley. Admittedly my gaming knowledge begins and ends with Spyro the Dragon, but I can definitely understand why it has such a large following and its addictive quality. With Emika inadvertently inserting herself into the game and the chaos that follows I can definitely see how her role as spy can bring about a lot of unpredictability and tension. I’m also very interested in meeting Hideo and his role in this tale.

What’s your most anticipated book?

  1. I haven’t picked up a Marie Lu book since Champion, which honestly had a maddening ending! Nereyda read her other series and liked it too though I don’t think it’s for me either.
I’ll wait and see what others think of this first! I hope you’ll enjoy it when you read it!

    1. I’m told the Legend series is good but the ending is a hit or miss so I put it on hold and I just forgot about the other series haha. This book seems right up my alley though.

  2. I have yet to read a Marie Lu book too and I have a feeling this will be the first one! I love anything to do with gaming and virtual reality, and this kind of reminds me of Ready Player One, which I really loved. Great choice, Lois. ❤

    1. Her other two series sounded interesting enough but not so much that they became a priority. I love the sound of this book. I’ve still not read Ready Player One.
