A Promise of Fire (Kingmaker Chronicles #1) by Amanda Bouchet

Publication Date: August 1st 2016

Goodreads Summary
Kingmaker. Soothsayer. Warrior. Mage. Kingdoms would rise and fall for her . . . if she is ever found.

In the icy North, where magic is might, an all-powerful elite ruthlessly guided by a glacial Queen have grown to dominate the world. Now rebellion is stirring in the rough, magic-poor South, where for the first time in memory a warlord has succeeded in uniting the tribal nations.

Stuck in the middle is Cat – circus performer and soothsayer – safely hidden behind heavy make-up, bright colours and the harmless illusion of the circus. Until someone suspects she’s more than she seems . . .

Captured by the Southern warlord Griffin, Cat’s careful camouflage is wearing thin. For how long can – or should – she conceal the true extent of her power? Faced with dragons, homicidal mages, rival Gods and the traitorous longings of her own heart, she must decide: is it time to claim her destiny and fight?

How epic does this book sound? Not only do you have magic but you also have dragons and from the sounds of it, a lot of mythology – which is a huge plus for me. More than that I have a strong feeling that Griffin and Cat will follow the classic hate to love trope aka one of my favourites. This world sounds so exciting and I can wait to meet these characters.

What’s your most anticipated book?

  1. I’ve already read this, Lois, and I’m absolutely obsessed with it! The hate to love was really strong! Adult fantasy romance should be more of a thing and I’ve been dying to read more.
I can’t wait for you to pick it up and hopefully love it too! 🙂
    Wonderful review!

    1. YAY! I am so happy to hear you enjoyed this, Nick. I’ve not read many adult fantasies so I’m definitely up to exploring more of these books. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book now. 😀
