Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Quotes from Books I Don’t Talk About Enough

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This weeks topic is all about showing some love to books we feel like we don’t talk about enough. I’ve kind of taken on this topic in the last freebie we had, which you can see here. So I thought why don’t I highlight my favourite quotes from books I feel I don’t give as much attention to. These books are all ones I really enjoyed but I only mention in passing or I only refer to the book in the context of the entire series.

1. What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

“I finally get that sometimes we hold on to something – a person, a resentment, a regret, an idea of who we are – because we don’t know what to reach for next. That what we’ve done before is what we have to do again. That there are only re-dos and no do-overs. And maybe … maybe I know better than that.”

2. I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

“Meeting your soul mate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before – you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall, the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.”

3. Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy #2) by Laini Taylor

“I am one of billions. I am stardust gathered fleetingly into form. I will be ungathered. The stardust will go on to be other things someday and I will be free.”

4. The Hero of Ages (Mistborn Trilogy #3) by Brandon Sanderson

“Somehow, we’ll find it. The balance between whom we wish to be and whom we need to be. But for now, we simply have to be satisfied with who we are.”

5. The Archived (The Archived #1) by Victoria Schwab

“What if I mess up?”

“Oh, you will. You’ll mess up, you’ll make mistakes, you’ll break things. Some you’ll be able to piece together, and others you’ll lose. That’s all a given. But there’s only one thing you have to do for me.”

“What’s that?”

“Stay alive long enough to mess up again.”

6. Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy #1) by Pierce Brown

“We grew together, and now are grown. In her eyes, I see my heart. In her breath, I hear my soul. She is my land. She is my kin. My love.”

7. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

“There are moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and there are moments that you think you’ll remember for the rest of your life, and it’s not often they turn out to be the same moment.”

8. The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay

“I live in a world without magic or miracles. A place where there are no clairvoyants or shapeshifters, no angels or superhuman boys to save you. A place where people die and music disintegrates and things suck.”

9. Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky Series #2) by Veronica Rossi

“Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame.”

10. The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus #4) by Rick Riordan

“But magic is neither good nor evil. It is a tool, like a knife. Is a knife evil? Only if the wielder is evil.”

    1. The writing in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy is absolutely stunning and when it comes down to it Days of Blood and Starlight might just be my favourite book in that trilogy. 😀

  1. I really need to check some of these out! They have been appearing on Goodreads and Twitter a lot and I haven’t read them yet. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I like your twist on the topic. I really want to try reading I’ll Give You The Sun again. I DNF’ed it last year. The writing was so pretty, and I think I just wasn’t in the mood at the time. I need to finish the Under the Never Sky trilogy. I absolutely loved the first one, but never got around to reading the second one. I love the quote you chose! 😀

    1. There’s nothing worse than not being in the right mood to enjoy a book. I hope if you give I’ll Give You the Sun another chance you find yourself enjoying it.
You simply must finish the Under the Never Sky series. Each book just gets better and better. Perry, Aria and Roar all have their moments to shine. 😀

    1. That quote is but a taster to the stunning writing in I’ll Give you the Sun. The book just has a lot of heart and it’s so artistic. I hope you enjoy it when you get round to reading it. 😀

  3. I love the quote you chose for The Archived! I haven’t read that one yet but it sounds super good and definitely going on my wishlist! I’ve got so many of these books on my shelves but have yet to read them T_T I’m going to make it my mission to read The Scorpio Races and The Sea of Tranquility soon because I’ve heard endless wonderful things about them and I’ve owned them for way too long.

    1. Victoria Schwab is such a quotable author and I feel bad for never singing the praises of the Archived as much as I do ADSoM and Vicious.
If you like the Raven Cycle you will love Scorpio Races. The atmosphere in that book is so captivating and the writing is stunning. Definitely a priority read haha.

  4. Oh my gosh, THE SHAME because I haven’t read any of these books yet. T.T But I love that Fitzpatrick quote! I recently bought that book and My Life Next Door! And oh my gosh, that Red Rising quote is so romantic?? After the third book’s release to that series there’s been so much hype surrounding it. I need to get to it as soon as possible! And love your take on this week’s topic, Lois! 😀

    1. *gasps* You’ve not read a single book. For shame. 😛 I am glad that you now have My Life Next Door, it is undoubtedly the perfect summer read. The Red Rising trilogy has done nothing but blow me away, even though I’ve still not mustered the courage to read the final book in the trilogy haha. With how brutal and bloody Red Rising was, I was surprised at how romantic that quote was. I was swooning so hard after reading it.

  5. These are FABULOUS! I love the quote (and like, a billion others!) from I’ll Give You the Sun! And Through the Ever Night! I feel like Victoria Schwab has THE most on point quotes ever. Like, I haven’t read The Archived (yet! but I own it!) but all of her quotes are phenomenal! I need to read the rest of these books ASAP- I own at LEAST half of them bwhaha. Great list, love the way you did this prompt!

    1. I had such a hard time picking just one quote from I’ll Give You the Sun, it’s such a quotable book.
Victoria Schwab definitely has a way with words and all of her books are so atmospheric. I got chills when reading the Archived so I hope you enjoy it when you get round to it.
At least you have a copy of the other books, that’s half the battle over and done with, all you gotta do is somehow find time to read them all haha.
