Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week I am waiting on
Gemina (Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Publication Date: October 18th 2016
Goodreads Summary
Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.
Hanna Donnelly is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik Malikov the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.
When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own surivival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.
But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.
Illuminae was one of my most anticipated books last year and it did not disappoint. This series has the most creative narrative method I’ve ever come across. What surprised me was how much I connected with the characters despite the fact that the story is compiled of secondary documents.
Illuminae left me with a lot of unanswered questions and I hope we get some sort of resolution to these questions in Gemina. I’ll be interested in seeing how Hanna and Nik link up with Kady and Ezra and the part they play in this tale. Plus I think the dynamic between Hanna and Nik promises to be quite interesting; opposites attract after all. 😉
- Note: I am obsessed with the cover for Gemina. The blue just pops and it will look so nice next to Illuminae.
What’s your most anticipated book?
I still need to read Illuminae, but i have a feling i will be anticipating this one as soon as i do. Great pick. 😀

Illuminae is such a fun read and surprisingly emotional haha. It’s so creative and it keeps you on your toes. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when you read it. 😀

Hmmmmmm. I adored Illuminae, but I’m not sure at all that I want to continue the series. LOL.

I’m one of those people that need to know what happens next, especially when I have some burning questions. I was quite surprised to find out that Kady and Ezra weren’t the main characters in Gemina so I hope Nik and Hanna are just as compelling.

What questions did you have at the end of Illuminae? I honestly had none. But, come to think of it, that’s not unusual for me. I hardly ever think about a book once I’m past the ‘review-writing’ stage. lol.

More about what happens next and with Ezra’s parents involvement in the happenings in Illuminae and what happens when Kady/Ezra make it to Heimdall. I’m always wondering about the what ifs haha.

I bought Illuminae like 4 months ago but I have yet to read it. Luckily, one of my bookstagram book clubs chose it for this month so I finally have a reason to make myself pick it up. I do enjoy just staring at it on my shelf, it’s so pretty! Gemina is going to look lovely beside it! 🙂

Oh yes there’s definitely plenty of time. I feel like I might have to re-read Illuminae before Gemina’s release just to refresh my memory.

I like this cover more than Illuminae’s, I think. The blue is nice. And I also like that we get new protags, even though I liked Kady and Ezra. I am very much looking forward to seeing what happened on the Heimdall… 🙂

I definitely agree with you about the colour. The blue just looks more vibrant and chilling. It’ll look good next to Illuminae haha. I’m always a little bit nervous about having new protagonists take the stage but I’m confident this will work. 😀

The cover for this is so freaking pretty. I love this shade of blue, and I love it so much more than Illuminae’s, which is incredible because that was beautiful too. I’m a little wary about reading the book, though. I tend not to like installments that don’t focus on the characters encountered in the first book. I know Ezra and Kady are there, but they’re not the main focus. 😦 I hope I like it though.

The blue just looks a bit more vibrant and atmospheric to me but I’ll definitely look good next to illuminae haha. I am nervous about the new protagonists. I tend to get attached to the previous main characters but with how successful Amie’s Starbound trilogy was, I feel like I’ll grow to love Hanna and Nik just as much. 😀

Oh, I haven’t read These Broken Stars, so I wouldn’t know what she does with the new characters. But since you say it was good, I’ll keep an open mind 😀

I ADORED Illuminae. It was amazing! In fact, I am going to post my review on my blog tonight.
I can only hope that Gemina will be just as good and look just as beautiful.

I am so happy you enjoyed Illuminae. This is without a doubt one of the most creative books I’ve ever read. I definitely hope Gemina lives up to the hype.
