Top Ten Tuesday: Soundtrack to my Books

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Fun fact, I don’t listen to music when I’m reading cause I’m too easily distracted. I’m the type of girl that likes to sing-a-long to my tunes and so when I’m reading and my favourite song comes on, I am more likely to have a little dance party and end up missing a crucial part of the book. However, having said that I like relating songs to books and here are some songs that remind me of a certain character, couple or event in the book.

The Mortal Boy King by The Paper Kites

The obvious song for Gansey and Blue would be Drive by Halsey. However, I feel like this song is Gansey‘s anthem in The Raven Cycle. We all know of Gansey’s pending fate in this series *cries* and I feel that this song is haunting and foreboding.

Warriors by Imagine Dragons

You can apply this song to basically every Dystopian, Sci-Fi & Fantasy book that features an oppressed society. However, when I listen to this song for some reason I always think about The Howlers and Darrow in the Red Rising Trilogy. This song is basically a war cry and with Darrow’s mission I feel it’s very appropriate.

*Note: If my copy of Morning Star doesn’t arrive tomorrow someone will be getting an angry email.

Die a Happy Man by Thomas Rhett

You can’t go wrong with a good love song. Die a Happy Man is a song that will make you swoon and the couple I think about when I hear this song is Finnikin and Isaboe in The Lumatere Chronicles.  Finnikin is a character that loves fiercely, his world is his family. He would crawl to the end of the earth if Isaboe asked it of him. It doesn’t matter where he goes or what he does as long as he has her by his side. SWOON. ❤

Brother by The Mighty Oaks

Now this song can be applied to all the bromances out there. However, after re-reading A Darker Shade of Magic this song makes me think about Kell and Rhy. Family does not end in blood and Kell proves that. Rhy is his family and there is NOTHING he wouldn’t do to keep him safe.

Hotel California by The Eagles

You all know of my love for I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios and this song is one of the reasons why. Hotel California is one of my all time favourite songs and to have it featured in the book was a wonderful delight. The moment the song comes into play is one of my favourites. A moment of slow dancing, a sizzling attraction and just pure romance. I will always associate this song with Skylar and Josh

Obviously my mind goes blank the moment I start writing this post so these are just a sample of the soundtrack to my books and the ones that stick with me most.

What are the songs that make up your the soundtrack to your books?

    1. Th Mighty Oaks were basically the soundtrack to my life last year as I was finishing university. Brother is just one song that makes me think of all the bookish bromances. 😀

    1. Imagine Dragons just fits the dystopian atmosphere; it’s a match made in heaven haha. It was only recently that I started listening to them and Warriors always makes me think of those oppressed book worlds.

  1. Damnn this week’s TTT is hard, but you did such a great job with it. Warriors is perfect, as I recently finished Morning Star, it definitely gave me the feels. Thanks for introducing me to so many great songs, I am so out of the loop with music since all I listen to these days are audiobooks, oops.

    1. I’ve been wanting to get in to audiobooks but I feel like I’d get easily distracted while listening to them haha. While I was browsing through my playlists for this topic I realised how random my music taste is haha.
Morning Star ❤ I am so excited and slightly terrified to read it. On a scale of 1-10 how traumatized will I be by the end?

      1. I used to have attention problems with audiobooks, but I do a lot of listening during walks haha. Morning Star has a very satisfying ending- I’m just sad it’s over!

    1. The amount of browsing I did for this weeks topic is unreal and then matching the songs to books was even harder haha. I feel like I should start writing down the songs I link to specific books because my mind just went blank. 😛

  2. I really wanted to do this week’s T10T but was too swamped with schoolwork lately to have to schedule a post. But CAN I JUST SAY YOUR TASTE IS WONDERFUL! I love Hotel California! My dad loves The Eagles so I grew up listening to them a lot. My favorite song by them is probably I Can’t Tell You Why though. (I’m such a romantic, lol.)

    1. Schoolwork is a priority my friend. Plus there’s always next week. 😉
I’ve always found my music taste to be very random cause I will literally listen to anything and everything if it’s good haha. The Eagles are an absolute classic for me. |I absolutely adore I Can’t Tell You Why but Hotel California will always be my go-to chill song haha.
