Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’ve Recently Added to my TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

Thank you goodreads for making this weeks topic very easy for me. However, I am not the best at keeping track of my tbr list and I often forget to add a bunch of books to the list. So this is a bit of a mishmash of old/new/upcoming releases. I should actually put some order to my tbr list at some point.

1. Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale by David Kudler: Look how pretty the cover is for this book. I stumbled upon this book a few weeks ago and when I read the premise I was hooked. I will jump at any chance to explore a new culture in a book. Japan is close to the top of my list of must visit places and this book sounds like my cup of tea.

2. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: I had no idea Laini Taylor had a new book coming out. I loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series and so I have high hopes for this book.

3. Nameless by Jennifer Jenkins: All I know about this book is that it looks dark and intense and is a game of survival of the fittest. 

4. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys: One of my most anticipated books of the year. This is one of many historic novels set to come out in 2016 and I can’t wait to see how the brutality and tragedy of World War II is conveyed in this book.

5. Heartless by Marissa Meyer: I’ve known about this book for a while but only added it to my tbr list recently. Fairy-tale reltellings/origin stories + Marissa Meyer = Everything good in this world.

6. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard: My copy still hasn’t arrived yet *glares angrily at amazon* but I can’t wait to see if this book lives up to the hype

7. Half a King by Joe Abercrombie: I have no idea how/when this book made it’s way into my tbr pile but the premise sounds all sorts of interesting and morally complex. Sign me up.

8. Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier: Again I don’t actually remember adding this to my pile but it sounds magical so I’ll keep it there.

9. The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith: I love a good coming of age book and I know this book explores a heavy topic so I’m interested in seeing how how that is handled.

10. Fear the Drowning Deep by Sarah Glenn Marsh: Mysterious. Haunting. Witchcraft. What more could you want.

    1. Marissa Meyer has definitely cemented herself as my favourite author for fairy-tale retellings. The hype for Truthwitch is unreal and I hope it lives up to these high expectations. I feel like I’m going to have to be in the right mood to read The Way I Used to Be but I’m definitely excited to get my hands on the book.

    1. I’ve really been in the mood to read more historical fiction and there are so many interesting historic books coming out this year and I am so excited to get my hands on them. Salt to the Sea is probably my most anticipated out of the historical fiction books.

    1. Laini Taylor’s writing is absolutely beautiful and at times haunting. I can’t wait to see what Strange the Dreamer has in store for us. Truthwitch is definitely a priority read for me this year and I hope the book lives up to the hype.

    1. I’ve been itching to get back in to historical fiction and there are so many great books coming out in that genre this year and I’m excited to get my hands on them. Truthwitch is a priority read for me. Between Stars Above and Heartless I think my yearly fix of Marissa Meyer will be very fulfilling haha.

  13. After seeing how wonderful Fairest was, I am so excited for Heartless! If it’s anything near as amazing, twisted and thought-provoking as Fairest was, I think that’s a good indication we’re in for a treat. xD And Truthwitch and Salt to the Sea have definitely been getting a lot of hype – hopefully they turn out to be as amazing as they sound.     1. So far Marissa Meyer has delivered with every book she releases. I love origin stories and Meyer is definitely the appropriate author to bring this story to life. Salt to the Sea is one book I cannot wait to get my hands on. 😀

  15. I loved the writing in Half a King! I mentioned in my review that Abercrombie could probably write a grocery list and it’d sound eloquent AF (and I still stand by this statement). What’s neat is the sequels to it follow a different perspective in the same world but still features the previous protagonists (if that makes sense). That’s what I heard though (I’m only one book 2).

    1. With such high praise I’m going to have to bump this one higher up my tbr list. I’ve got some high expectations now haha. So the sequel is basically a like companion novel featuring a different protagonist but the plot is continuous and the characters in the first book are still present? Either way I am ready to get sucked into this book. 😀

  18. I found both Half A King and Heart’s Blood excellent, and really enjoyed reading Truthwitch as well, so I hope you enjoy it.
    LOVE the cover of Risoko! It’s so badass! and I can’t wait for the new Laini Taylor, she’s such a wordsmith ❤

    1. Half a King has been moved up on the priority list cause I’m hearing all sorts of wonderful things about the book. Finding time to read all these books is proving to be a difficult task; we need more hours haha. 😀
