Top Ten Tuesday: 2016 Anticipated Releases (First Half of the Year)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

There are so many wonderful books coming out in 2016 and narrowing down the list to 10 books was tough so I decided to take some of my go to choices, A Gathering of Shadows etc, out of today’s list. top 10 2016 anticipated.png

1. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (January 5th): The first of many time traveling books to come out this year. I’ve not read The Darkest Minds trilogy but I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book.

2. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater (April 26th): This is definitely an obvious choice for me. I adore my Raven Boys (and Blue) and this is one book I can’t predict. There are so many directions this book can take and I’m terrified, excited and nervous to see where this journey takes us. The one thing I ask is that my favourite character makes it alive to the very end.

3. Morning Star by Pierce Brown (February 9th): I can already see this book tearing me to shreds. Golden Son blew me away and I have no idea what to expect from this book. What I do know is that it’s likely to blow me away.

4. Riders by Veronica Rossi (February 16th): I read the first few chapters of this book and I was hooked from the get go. The concept of this book sounds very original and I’m very interested to see how the role of the four horsemen is explored.

5. Nora and Kettle by  Lauren Nicolle Taylor (February 29th): A Peter Pan retelling. What more could you want. The fact that the book is set in the post World War II era makes me so excited because it such a tumultuous period in time.

6. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig (February 16th): Time travel strikes again. From the synopsis, this book looks to explore the consequences of time travelling and how one act could change an entire persons life. Plus I love that we get to explore all these different periods in time and having a portion of the book take place in Hawaii (one of my must visit places) has me sold.

7. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (May 3rd): My summer reading would not be complete without a Morgan Matson book. Her books always have a lot of heart and a swoon worthy romance.

8. Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee (May 24th): Recently I’ve been getting back into my historic fiction and this book looks to be quite hard-hitting. I love exploring the way people reacted to tragic situation and how they navigate themselves around the event.

9. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys (February 2nd): Another World War II based book that looks to pack a punch. I always think that finding hope during a period of such horror and tragedy is one of the hardest things you can possibly do. I think this book may end up haunting me once I finish it.

10. Summer Days and Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories edited by Stephanie Perkins (June 14th): To finish on a lighter note, I loved the Winter collection so I have high hopes for this one. Another perfect summer read and the fact that Stephanie’s story follows the same couple in her Winter short story makes me even more excited.

These are but a few of the wonderful books set to come out in the first half of 2016. Which books made it to your list?

  1. I’m also looking forward to Summer Days as I just read the holiday anthology recently and enjoyed it. This one should be good. 🙂 And the cover of Salt to the Sea certainly looks interesting, and a little harrowing… I’m curious about that one.

  3. Passenger is one of my most highly anticipated as well. I haven’t read The Darkest Minds either but Passenger definitely appeals to me more. It sounds like it’s going to be great! And I had no idea that Stephanie’s story in her summer collection will feature the same couple! I’ll have to reread her story in My True Love Gave to Me!

    1. I’ve heard a lot of great things about The Darkest Minds but when I read the synopsis I kept thinking about the X Men haha. Stephanie’s story was my favourite in My True Love Gave to Me so I’m happy that we’re able to check in with the couple in Summer Days.

  4. Nora and Kettle! I am so happy to see this on your list! Along with some other fabulous choices, of course! Outrun the Moon looks SO good. I feel like I should probably just pre order it, really. Riders is also on my must-read list. And I HAVE to catch up with these series so I can read Morning Star and The Raven King! I am terrified for spoilers. OHH! I finished The Girl From Everywhere, and it was also fabulous! Like, I will probably pre-order it for the fun stuff, that level of love! Such great choices, I am really excited for them too. Hope you enjoy them!

    1. So far Veronica Rossi has delivered one solid book after another and I feel like Riders will continue this epic spree. You must catch up with the Red Rising trilogy; it’s so gritty and dark and full of twist and turns. I am with you on that spoiler terror, that’s why I avoid tumblr haha. I am so glad that you enjoyed The Girl from Everywhere and I can’t wait to get my copy. 😀
