Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Book Quotes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish where we get a new topic for a top 10 list.

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday is a list of my favourite quotes from the books I’ve read in 2015. Every time I read a book I always have my little quote book next to me so I can write down the quotes that stood out. This year has been a good reading year for me and so narrowing down my top ten quotes was a challenge.

1. Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

“I was trying so hard to find the single pivotal moment that set my life on its path. The moment that answered the question, ‘How did I get here?’

But it’s never just one moment. It’s a series of them. And your life can branch out from each one in a thousand different ways. Maybe there’s a version of your life for all the choices you make and all the choices you don’t.”

2. I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios

“And maybe some people are like collages – no matter how broken or useless we felt, we were an essential part of the whole. We mattered.”

3. A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

“I’d rather die on an adventure than live standing still.”

4. Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

“Most people would say I’m pretty cold, but I think of it more as…private. People are always saying “how are you?” to each other, and I guess I don’t see why I should answer such a personal question for just anyone.”

5. Finnikin of the Rock (The Lumatere Chronicles #1) by Melina Marchetta

“Sir Topher finally looked up. “Because any hope beyond that, my boy, would be too much. I feared we would drown in it.”
“Then I choose to drown,” Finnikin said. “In hope. Rather than float into nothing.”

6. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

“Many boys will bring you flowers. But someday you’ll meet a boy who will learn your favorite flower, your favorite song, your favorite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won’t matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns you heart.”

7. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

“She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.”

8. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

“You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows that they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift.”

9. Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

“Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there’s no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”

10. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway

“That’s when I first learned about true frustration, that wrenching ache when the thing that matters most to you barely makes a ripple in other people’s lives.”

  1. A quote book is a great idea. I always end up scrawling quotes on the nearest scrap paer or something, I should get more organized! 🙂 Nice quotes, I like the Illuminae one a lot as I just read that book and I remember that line.

    1. I use to do the exact same thing. I always ended up with a pile of scrap paper or I’d lose the quote and it just became a mess haha. Illuminae has a lot of quotable moments. It was hard to narrow it down to just one. 🙂

    1. Narrowing down the list was probably the toughest challenge haha. Emmy & Oliver is without a doubt one of the sweetest, understated contemporary books I’ve read this year.

  2. Yeeeees, Finnikin of the Rock! Finnikin is my boy, I love that part.
I also love that quote from The Night Circus, but the whole paragraph was too long to post and I couldn’t figure out which bit I wanted to single out.
    Great picks!

    1. I see Finnikin as my book husband. I just adore this guy so much.
I had the same dilemma with The Night Circus quote. I thought about posting a shorter one but in the end the entire part kept calling me back. 🙂

    1. I’ll Meet You There is one book I will never get tired of. It’s just so thoughtful and heartwarming. I adore the book. I’m amazed at all the wonderful edits I’ve seen with some of these quotes, readers/bloggers are so talented. 😀 I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait a year until Crooked Kingdom, I just need to know what happens next.

    1. I get chills every time I read that quote. Hope is essentially what keeps us going and it is such a powerful force. I feel like I need to re-read Daughter of Smoke and Bone just for that moment haha
