This series is literally one of my favourites and I am not quite ready to let go of the characters yet. I was worried about how Susan would tie up all the loose ends since it was originally meant to be 6 books. As always I was worried for nothing. Like the first two books we get a great mix of character and plot. Neither outshines the other and Susan gets the balance just right.

One of the major focuses of the book is the relationship between Raffe and Penryn. We’ve seen the two of them struggle with the question of how they can be together – she being a daughter of man and he an angel. Logically there is no way to make it work and we continue to see them grapple with that realisation. However, we also get so many heart stopping, breath taking and down right sexy moments. I think above all else though, this series demonstrates how well these two work together in all aspects of life. Their trust in one another is unwavering. Not only do we get to feel the chemistry but we also get to visually witness it and it’s so refreshing to have that connection and depth in their dynamic.

Perhaps an element which is equally as compelling is Penryn’s strength as an individual. Penryn is an example of a girl who has been forced to grow before her time and I am constantly in awe at how she adapts to these circumstances. Raffe is equally as compelling and we really get a feel for this battle between this choice between his feelings for Penryn and his loyalty to his race, which only strengthens our understanding of his character.

The secondary characters are just as compelling. Penryn’s mum and sister, Paige, both have several moments in the spotlight and if anything it highlights the level of devotions the family as they go to any lengths to keep them safe.

Perhaps one of the biggest shocks I got from this book was how much I sympathised with Beliel as we get an insight into his background and history. It’s a pure tragedy.

My main and only complaint is the fact that I wished we had just a little bit more information at the end, I felt like I needed a bit more closure with the epilogue.

Overall the journey I’ve been taken on with these characters and this series is one I will always cherish and I am so sad that this is the end…although I do hope we get a novella or something in the future.
